a short list of strange things seen at the beach

We’re having a great time at the beach – how could we not? However, there has been some absurdity…and for posterity’s sake, we should take note. So here goes:

  • There’s a giant barge sucking sand out of the bottom of the ocean and spitting it up on the beach next to us. You should see that stuff fly.
  • Someone, or many someones, have stapled (? I guess, I didn’t really investigate) about a hundred shoes to an old pier post that’s on our beach. They weren’t there last year. We don’t know why they’re here this year. My nephew, Billy, says maybe it’s for all the people that have died. I told him not too many people die around here, because death is not that great for tourism.
  • I have seen more pregnant women in bikinis than I ever need to. My quota is full. There are, possibly, people who can pull this look off. The people I have seen are not, unless it’s their intention for me to spend most of my day looking for definitive proof that they are, in fact, pregnant, and not just beer bellied.
  • A woman that caused my husband to ask – so what do the letters go to, anyway? Do they go past F?

Also on our trip so far, we’ve seen tree frogs at the hotel in Mobile (what? I thought those were only in the rainforest!) and they were actually quite cute. I’m sure there will be more to share – maybe tomorrow I’ll remember to get some pictures of it all…
