UPDATE: We’re back on Dilecto, which makes about half this post make no sense…but still, can’t you hear me breathe my huge sigh of relief? Ok, read on if you must…
First, something you will most likely care nothing about:
Last night, we (and by “we” I mean the fabulous Bryan Jones) updated to the latest version of WordPress and simultaneously blew up (that IS the technical term. He works on the internets, you know) my previous theme, the lovely Dilectio from Design Disease. Which is, by the way, an absolutely fabulous name, being both dashingly alliterative and deadly accurate. It is a disease, complete with fevered discussions on why you should never use certain fonts. Ever.
But I digress. We are currently on the Smashing Theme, also by Design Disease – and while I love the stripy stripes (it’s a recurring theme) – there are other things that are problematic. Like all these dang lines that show up in the middle of the posts (don’t look at me like I’m crazy – it’s not doing it on this one, but it sure jacked up my last few…). Why? Seriously. Why? And the way the titles of the widgets in the first sidebar are in all caps. LIKE I’M YELLING AT YOU. LOOK OVER HERE! If I’m going to yell (and I am a yeller) I really want it to be on my own terms. And (and I really hate to bring this up) again with the fonts. I don’t love the choices here. Picky, I know. We’ll be back on Dilectio soon, though, Bryan fixed whatever it was. But I told him he couldn’t switch me back yet, because I had written part of this post already and it wouldn’t make sense…
Did I say your inner geek? Oh, I SO meant mine. She’s the one over there in the corner reading an article on the great fonts to use on name tags. After that, she’s going spend a little time finding 815.
What’s that, you say? That, my friends is where the rubber meets the road in the land of Geekville. Stop #2 on the Geek Train for today. Because not only do I love the show LOST so much that I watch most episodes sitting on my living room floor, 2 feet away from the TV, lest I miss some detail…not only could I tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the numbers, or the black smoke, or the Dharma Initiative, or the purgatory theory, or the flash forward, or…
Sorry. Not only all that, but I also have been playing an alternate reality game about the show. Yes, you read that right: a game based on an alternate reality. It takes the elements of a TELEVISION show and treats them as if they really happened, complete with websites, press releases, phone and email messages, and if we only lived in the right city – billboards for airlines that don’t exist.
Before you write me off completely, let me say that LOST is completely worth this type of fanaticism. Every time, you find out more about this incredibly mysterious story – and you also find out about these incredibly mysterious people. It’s written so well, by people who are smart and who expect you to be smart. There are people out there all over the internet taking apart every minute, every shot of the show – and the people making the show cater to it. You can just watch the show on the surface, or you can dig into all these layers, because there are so many references and hints and clues and did you catch that? moments, it’s just amazing. I love it. I love the depth of it. It’s a GREAT SHOW and YOU SHOULD WATCH IT (see? yeller!). Because let’s face it – there’s absolutely nothing else on. There’s so nothing else on that you could rent the DVD’s and start at the beginning (which frankly, I would recommend. Why are you wasting your time on Celebrity Rehab? They should give Kenickie the boot already).
Season 4 starts tomorrow. With an hour long “catch you up” on the front end. And if you have an questions after that, you can call me and I will summon the geek…
i’m soooooo tivo-ing this episode so that i don’t miss a minute, a second because of things 1 and 2… wait, am i a geek too?Â
a recent convert to LOST i am (because apparently, reading your blog makes me summon up the inner yoda)
i watched season 1 and half of season 2. my schedule was such that i could never catch the episode at the beginning, and i told myself i shouldn’t be wasting that hour each week with a "must see" show. and The Others started to REALLY annoy me, so, since i couldn’t really keep up, i stopped cold turkey.
after some friends were talking about it a few months later, i gave it another try, but i had missed too much background to make up. and, again, there were the others…
as for arial, my inner geek was fascinated with that history lesson. i never really liked arial.
isn’t that a fun article? i thought it was fascinating too.
and those others, they are creepy. and tonight? new arrivals! sooo exciting!
i turned lost on at 8:20 tonight and watched most of both episodes while working on my taxes. i’m still confused, but less so now. i hope this doesn’t mean i have to watch every week. yikes! i already have a must-see show (numbers) that doesn’t frustrate me as much. :-)
OK your last post are so prolific and filled with funny and stuff that I can only conclude that you are motivated by happy stripes and fun colors!
i think that you must be huffin’ paint again. i see no evidence of the big blow up. none. it obviously didn’t happen…
(i did like the smashing theme, though)
