you didn’t see anything…

Yesterday, my family sat in a circle on a blanket on the stained concrete floor of a large open room.  Late afternoon light streamed in the windows.  Around us, other families talked quietly, reverently.  We were at an observance of sorts, an family experience designed by wonderful children’s leaders at our church to help us focus on the events of Holy Week.

At this particular station, we were given small pieces of paper to write on.  Each of us was to write a sin on that paper, in private.  We held our papers carefully, writing, holding them so no one else could see.  It was silent in our circle.

Then Will turned to whisper to me:

Mom?  How do you spell STEAL?

And then:

Mom?  How do you spell CHOCOLATE?

I guess I can quit wondering where all the chocolate chips have gone…

  1. That is the BEST!  his counterpart (#3 in our family) kept losing his sin.  Before we left each station, we were all, Everyone look around on the floor for Ben’s sin.

    Loved the whole experience.

  4. we wrote our sins, my youngest wisely choosing ‘disobey’ (and then said, ‘i have to choose just one?’) but i digress. we threw it. we picked it up.  i told him to hold onto it at which time he shoved it in his ‘wittle pocket.  then he looked at ms. liz with his big ol browns, strutted away and said ‘UH huh UH huh. i got some sin in my pocket’…
